Aboriginal Women’s Sexual Health Promotion Officer

Position Summary

The aim of the position is:
to prevent and reduce the spread of HIV, hepatitis C and sexually transmissible infections through community capacity development and other health promotion strategies; and to improve access to services and develop health promotion programs for Aboriginal people living with HIV or hepatitis C.

Position Location
The position will be based at the Prince of Wales Hospital, Randwick, but will work with Aboriginal Communities throughout the areas served by the Northern and Central Networks’ HARP Health Promotion Team.

There is also the possibility of working with other HARP funded services such as the Kirketon Road Centre.

Essential Criteria:

- Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander woman as authorised under Sections 14(d) and 31 of the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.
-Demonstrated ability to work in Aboriginal Health, with Aboriginal community-controlled organisations and engage with communities in a health promotion role.
-Excellent communication skills to build effective partnerships, resolve conflict and negotiate.
-Demonstrated ability to plan, deliver and evaluate health promotion projects.
-Demonstrated skills to undertake community capacity building.
-Demonstrated skills in time management and ability to complete tasks as outlined in a work plan or as specified by management.
-Knowledge of issues affecting local Aboriginal communities.
-Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
-An understanding of the harm reduction approach.
-Awareness of the importance of confidentiality and its application.
-Knowledge of issues affecting the priority populations identified in the NSW and SESIH HIV/AIDS and Sexually Transmissible Infections Strategies/Plan.
-Current NSW drivers licence
