Here at DANA HQ we are excited with the prospect of what 2018 holds; so, let me give you a glimpse:
If you are hankering to study or undertake professional development overseas, you should apply for the annual Professor Margaret Hamilton Scholarship. Hurry! Applications close on March 16th, 2018. Full details are provided on this website.
Continue your journey to excellence by taking advantage of DANA’s special Credentialling / Advanced Certification Amnesty. The application fee is waived if you apply before February 2nd, 2018.
Catch up with your friends and colleagues in Melbourne at the DANA Annual Conference. Keep an eye on this website and reading the monthly e-blast for more information. I am looking forward to seeing you in Melbourne.
Behind the scenes the DANA Management Committee has reorganised to deliver improved benefits to members. With greater emphasis on providing educational opportunities there are now three committee members working exclusively on ‘events’; Elly Staunton-McKenzie, Carol Price and Jo McMaster. Adam Searby is our dedicated ‘education officer’ and Lucinda Scopelliti is wearing two hats; vice president and ‘membership officer’. Moira Gilmour retains her role a ‘credentialling / advanced certification officer’ while Margo Hickman and Ruth Daly continue in their roles of secretary and treasurer respectively.
DANA is committed to networking with professional organisations that can advance the interests of DANA Members and ensure that the voice of drug and alcohol / addiction nurses is heard. DANA is a long-standing, active, member of the Coalition of National Nursing and Midwifery Organisations (CoNNMO). With the energy and knowledge of more than 55 national nursing and midwifery organisations this alliance works collectively to advance the profession to improve health care. More recently DANA has joined the Association Forum to ensure good governance through best practice in our operations.
After years of service on the DANA Management Committee, Steph Anderson has announced her intention to step down. Steph was the New Zealand South Island Chapter representative. She has been the face of DANA at the annual Cutting-Edge Conference and a voice for New Zealand addiction nurses. I’ll miss you Steph. Thank you.
Let’s meet in Melbourne in July.
Darren Smyth is the President of DANA and Clinical Nurse Consultant Drug and Alcohol Northern NSW Local Health District, Australia.
