This Temporary Full-time position  of a Clinical Nurse (RN) is intended to support the conduct of clinical trials and other research projects at Drug Health Services.

The Service seeks a research nurse to provide clinical and research support to a novel clinical trial that will test the effects of inhaled medical cannabis on driving ability and cognition. This role will involve facilitating the administration of cannabis via vaporization, performing peripheral venepuncture and cannulation, providing support and care to participants and assisting in administering the research protocol.

The research protocol will include an advanced driving simulation task, tests of reaction time and attention, and providing blood and saliva samples for analysis.

The position will also involve assisting with other clinical trials and research projects as required. The anticipated period of employment is one year with extension depending on future funding for research studies.

An opportunity exists for highly motivated registered nurse to join Goulburn Valley Alcohol and Drug Service (GVADS) and to develop specialist skills in addiction medicine. Addiction medicine is a well-recognised area of health care growth in Australia. In response to increased service capacity and the establishment of a residential withdrawal service, this position will be one of 3 nursing roles in the team which will include a Nurse Practitioner or Candidate.

The nurse will ensure the safe and effective management of withdrawal and co-occurring physical and mental health conditions. They will provide clinical liaison to Goulburn Valley Health Emergency Department and other inpatient settings.

The role provides expert advice and support to people undergoing withdrawal from drug and alcohol and is responsible for all aspects of the medical management of a client’s alcohol or other drug withdrawal in a non-residential setting. They will be instrumental in developing the service and support structures to respond to drug and alcohol clinical management in the acute hospital setting. The Nurse liaises with medical staff (GP’s or hospital staff), other clinical staff, community health and welfare services. GVADS provide an integrated catchment wide service response with the person, in the person’s community.

The service also provides support and advice to clinical staff about assessment, management and referral pathways for clients with identified Drug and Alcohol issues.

This position will be supported by the professional and dedicated team and includes:
