DANA is pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Addiction Practitioners’ Association, Aotearoa-New Zealand
As the delivery of mental health and addiction services at a primary care level develops it is timely to establish more formal ties between DANA and DAPAANZ; a society incorporated in 2003 to represent the professional interests of its members; practitioners from across disciplines working in addiction treatment in New Zealand.
DANA as the peak body for nurses working in the addiction field can complement the professional practitioners working with DAPAANZ and visa versa. Specific aims include providing a strong, united voice for addiction practitioners and addiction specialist nursing at local and national levels and also, where appropriate, in partnership with consumer groups, as a voice on behalf of people with addiction problems and their families and whanau. Each organisation has the common goal of providing opportunities for its members to improve professional practice through professional development opportunities, such as conferences and other organised professional development events.
We see that the MOU between DANA and DAPAANZ will enhance benefits for our respective members. This will be achieved by broadening the scope of opportunities available to our members through increased access to professional development opportunities. Members of each organisation will enjoy reciprocal benefits regarding access to conferences, organised events and other professional development opportunities. We also see that our respective organisations will be strengthened through the sharing of resources, through executive representation of committees and through the collaborative endeavours.
This partnership aims to develop existing networks and to build on the contributions of each organisation in furthering evidence-based practice in the addiction and mental health fields.
We are encouraging nurses working in addiction to join DANA for support, networking and to strengthen our voice. DANA is the only addiction nursing professional body in Australasia.
