Make FASD History – International FASD Awareness Day 9.9.2014

7 September 2014 by DANA Executive

fasdSeptember 9, 2014 is International Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD)  Awareness Day.   FASD Awareness Day was created to alert people to the importance of not drinking alcohol during pregnancy and the need to provide effective services for individuals and families impacted by these disorders.

Wanting to know more?  Visit  either of these websites   http://www.nofasd.org.au or  http://www.fasd-can.org.nz or visit the  ‘Women Want to Know’ project to access resources that you can use to routinely discuss alcohol and pregnancy with women and to provide advice that is consistent with the National Health and Medical Research Council’s Australian Guidelines to Reduce Health Risks from Drinking Alcohol.

Did you know that research has shown that women are more likely to avoid alcohol when their partners avoid it?  Mindful of this the Foundation for Alcohol Research and Education (FARE) has launched its ‘Pregnant Pause’ project both to raise awareness and raise funds to prevent FASD and to support  people living with FASD.
