Well, we have made it to the end of a very ‘interesting’ year. Fittingly, 2020 was the Year of the Nurse and Midwife, and like many other specialties, AOD nursing stood tall at the coalface of a global pandemic. In conversation with non-nursing colleagues, I mentioned that our COVID-19 research showed that it was often nurses who remained in our services, providing medications, physical and mental health monitoring, and of course, COVID testing. We have stayed the course to ultimately provide for our clients, who are often marginalised and struggle to access healthcare services that many of us take for granted.
Here at the offices of DANA, we hope that you are able to take some time out over the festive season to spend time with family and those close to you. This Christmas may be vastly different from those we have known in the past while the COVID situation remains uncertain. Even so, we are looking forward to heading to Adelaide in August 2021 to fire up both the DANA Conference and a coffee cart (!) – however we know the situation is volatile and could change at any moment. We do understand how many of you are looking forward to catching up with colleagues and friends at a DANA event in 2021 and are working very hard to make this happen.
On behalf of the DANA management committee, thank you for supporting DANA through this difficult time. We look forward to continuing to support the AOD nursing specialty, and understand the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. Have a fantastic Christmas and a happy new year.
With the exception of public holidays the DANA office will be contactable throughout the Festive Season.
