The National Cannabis Prevention and Information Centre (NCPIC) has recently introduced several new trainings to its range of interactive training workshops that are well suited to DANA members. All the NCPIC trainings in cannabis information and interventions are free of charge, are evidence-based and can be used when working with either adults or young people. These workshops consist of didactic and skills based components and are framed around core competencies. Participants are also given material and resources related to the workshops they attend. Some of the workshops available include: –
Very Brief Intervention (2 hours)
A very brief clinical intervention for cannabis use disorder which will provide participants with screening strategies and information on delivering a short intervention for cannabis.
Cannabis Everything You Need to Know (1 – 3 hours)
The latest information and research on cannabis use and related harms.
Effective Discussions with Young Cannabis Users (2 – 4 hours*)
A newly devised workshop providing information and strategies for those who work with young people to enhance their skills when dealing with cannabis use and young cannabis users.
Quitting Cannabis 1-6 sessions (2 – 4 hours*)
A comprehensive clinical intervention for practitioners who see clients in a one-on-one setting and wish to deliver a structured intervention to clients who are primarily treatment seekers.
Adolescent Cannabis Check-up (2 – 4 hours*)
A brief clinical intervention for practitioners who see clients in a one-on-one setting and wish to deliver a structured intervention based on Motivational Interviewing techniques and whose clients are primarily non treatment seekers.
Clinical Train the Trainer – Professional Development (2-3 days)
Professional development for clinicians in training other clinical staff in 2 clinical interventions for cannabis – Quitting Cannabis 1-6 and Adolescent Cannabis Check Up.
If you cannot see the workshop you want, NCPIC may still be able to devise a special workshop or combination of workshops for your particular needs.
The trainings and resources are provided by NCPIC for free. The local organiser/requester is responsible for organising a suitable room with laptop projector and screen, light catering for the training day, and a minimum of 10 participants.
It is anticipated that DANA will collaborate with NCPIC in 2014 to offer ½ day education workshops in Cannabis- Everything You Need to Know and Very Brief Intervention for Cannabis.
