Are you able to work flexibly and creatively in a non-traditional public health setting?  Then come and join the team at Australia’s first supervised injecting facility, the Uniting MSIC.

Uniting MSIC is currently recruiting Registered Nurses for Casual and Permanent Part Time positions.

The successful candidate(s) will be available to work evening shifts from 6-10pm weekdays.

There will also be the opportunity to cover some additional day and weekend shifts depending on roster cover requirements.

We are seeking applicants with experience in the Drug and Alcohol and/or Mental Health sectors.

Successful recruitment will be based on your ability to meet the following qualification, skills and experience:

  • Current Registered Nurse with AHPRA and at least two years post graduate experience
  • Understanding of and commitment to Harm Minimization, Social Justice and the service delivery model of the Medically Supervised Injecting Centre
  • Ability to work in a demanding and changeable environment
  • Understanding of the health, social and legal issues related to injecting drug use and marginalised populations
  • Knowledge of safer injecting practices, opioid overdose management and brief interventions
  • Understanding of the legislative, policy framework and values underpinning MSIC’s operation
  • Computer competence including word processing and the use of clinical databases
  • Experience in drug and alcohol, mental health or emergency nursing
  • 2 years’ experience working with people who inject drugs

Clinical Services Coordinator AOD Abbotsford

The Victorian Government new health based response to public intoxication sees the launch of a trial Sobering Service within the City of Yarra. This service is to ensure the right programs and systems are in place to help people who are drunk in public get the support they need to stay safe. The health based response is underpinned by the following four components:

  • Community outreach
  • Transport
  • Places of safety
  • Health and social care pathways and broader prevention strategies

The Salvation Army will be working in partnership to provide the Service with the City of Yarra, Victorian Government, local health services and Aboriginal organisations. The Salvation Army wants to acknowledge the legislative change to public intoxication was adopted in response to the tireless lobbying and advocacy by the family of Yorta Yorta woman, Tanya Day.

We currently have a new and exciting opportunity for a Clinical Services Coordinator to work within our AOD – Harm Reduction and Health Services in Abbotsford. This service supports people presenting as intoxicated / providing health supports to people that present as intoxicated/assessing and monitoring the health of people that present as intoxicated.

The Clinical Services Coordinator will manage a multidisciplinary team to ensure the delivery of high-quality comprehensive primary health care and harm reduction services to people attending the residential place of safety.

You will successfully

  • Ensure all aspects of service delivery align with The Salvation Army’s (TSA) alcohol and other drug (AOD) model of care, harm reduction and primary health care services
  • Engage with stakeholders to ensure positive relationships are developed and maintained
  • Support the Harm Reduction Services Manager to identify risks
  • Support the delivery of clinical services such as patient health assessments and health management plans in partnership with existing GP, nursing, and other clinical staff
  • Ensure patients are receiving integrated, whole of team responses to their health needs

This position reports to the Harm Reduction Services Manager and is located at Abbotsford. This is a full-time position fixed term for 12 months, with possible extension depending on funding arrangements.

You will have

  • Div 1 RN with current AHPRA registration
  • Experience and competency in delivering accessible Primary Health Care, AOD and Harm Reduction Services.
  • Strong understanding of the health and AOD harm reduction needs of people who use drugs, people who are experiencing homelessness, people who engage in street-based sex work or people experiencing discrimination, stigma or issues accessing health services due to other reasons.
  • Excellent organisation and administrative skills with capacity to balance workload and determine priorities while also addressing the needs of a high volume, often crisis orientated environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in the leadership of staff with strong verbal and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain CPD points as required by AHPRA
  • Willingness to provide on-call support as part of a roster
  • A current VIC Drivers Licence
  • Valid VIC Employee Working with Children Check
  • Ability to provide proof of Eligibility to Work in Australia

They are seeking a values-driven and dedicated Nurse Team Leader, reporting to the Centre Manager. You will provide leadership of the nursing team and specialised withdrawal management nursing services, clinical assessments, mental and physical health care, referral for addiction medical assistance as required to people undergoing withdrawal management, within a safe and culturally appropriate manner.

This is a permanent full-time position located at our Townsville Recovery Services Centre.

You will successfully

  • Provide leadership and role modelling to team staff and patient/client education staff selection, management, development and appraisal
  • Deliver direct and comprehensive nursing care to a specific group of patients or clients with complex nursing care needs
  • Coordinate, and ensure the maintenance of standards of the nursing care of a specific group or population of patients or clients
  • Dispense and administer medication to manage withdrawal symptoms as per the Guidelines
  • Support and liaise with visiting medical officers and other medical officers (MO) as needed.
  • Demonstrate commitment to an environment that values continuous improvement and innovation in the delivery of high-quality services

  • Demonstrated current knowledge of the Guidelines and issues relating to withdrawal management
