The Geelong Withdrawal Unit provides a residential medicated withdrawal service for those who are seeking to recover from alcohol and other drugs issues. Clients reside in the Unit during their episode of care and are provided with all meals and facilities. Clients can remain in the programme for a further 21 days (Stage 2) post their medicated withdrawal (Stage 1) to stabilise and plan for their recovery post-discharge.

Nursing staff are employed to cover the 24-hour period with clinical supervision provided by the Nursing Coordinator and Visiting Medical Officer (GP).

The Geelong Withdrawal Unit is currently seeking values-driven Casual Registered Nurses to provide nursing support and care for clients seeking to recover from alcohol and other drug issues.

You will successfully

• Ensure clients are fully aware of their treatment plan and inducted into the programme
• Provide clients with their withdrawal medication in a respectful fashion and in accordance with their medication chart
• Ensure clients are actively encouraged to participate in the programme
• Listen to clients and be involved in their recovery
• Monitor activities and clearly communicate at handover meetings
• Be professional, respectful and collaborative relationship is maintained with AOD Support staff

They have a number of casual positions available. The 12-bed Withdrawal Unit is in Corio.

You will have

• Degree or equivalent in Nursing and a current Div 1 certificate
• Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
• Cert IV in Alcohol and Other Drugs Competencies CHCAOD 2C, 6B, 8C, 9C AND 10A
• Clinical nursing and assessment skills and an understanding of professional nursing issues
• Practical experience in AOD sector service delivery, with an understanding of addictive behaviour and drugs, both illicit and licit
• A current Victorian Drivers Licence is essential
• A current and valid VIC Employee Working with Children Check
• Be able to provide proof of Eligibility to Work in Australia

Position 1: Registered Health Professional, AOD Service Westport

 We are seeking an Registered Nurse/Allied Health Professional to join our team in Westport to support and provide high quality alcohol & other drugs assessment to our community.

You will be responsible for:

• The delivery of health care to clients referred for alcohol and other drugs assessment and treatment
• Evaluating treatment plans ensuring they are conducted and recorded according to national guidelines
• Providing a consumer orientated and collaborative service

This is a full-time permanent role based in Westport with some travel across to West Coast needed from time to time. We are looking for someone who has a background in Alcohol & Other Drugs with a Nursing, Social Work, Addictions, Psychology, or similar background.

 Position 2: Dual Diagnosis Clinician / Alcohol & Other Drugs Professional AOD Service |Greymouth & Hokitika| West Coast

We are looking for a Registered Health professional with either a Nursing or Allied Health background, who has the clinical skills required to assist people with current or ongoing mental health and addiction problems, and to maintain their place in the community.  This role will be working within the community and within our model of care that includes integration with specialist mental health and primary care.

Our Rata Alcohol and Other Drugs Service (AOD) provides comprehensive assessment and treatment interventions for individuals experiencing substance addiction. You will be encouraged to develop your skills in delivering advanced, focussed, evidence-based treatments and harm reduction models. We would also ideally consider candidates with experience in the use of the Matrix programme, or who are willing to train as programme facilitators.

 We are looking for someone with the following traits

• Excellent communication & relationship building skills
• Flexibility to work autonomously as well as a part of a multi-disciplinary team
• Understanding and application of the principles of the treaty of Waitangi, with a culturally safe and appropriate approach to practice
• A strong understanding of Māori health inequity and Māori population need

Registered Nurse – Outreach, provides an outreach nursing service, that operates within the Registered Nurse Scope of Practice, to vulnerable and marginalised populations, with a specific emphasis on people who use substances that may be harmful.

Clinical Services and management of Nurse Treatment area, including:

• Conduct clinical triage of patients, nursing assessment and management of patients.
• Gather patient history relevant to the requirements of brief intervention in an outreach capacity
• Perform clinical duties within scope of practice; e.g.  wound management, chronic disease management
• Work collaboratively with outreach nurse program staff to improve the outcomes for patients
• Manage patient and administrative data according to established procedures

What we’re looking for

Someone who is passionate about their work and the health outcomes of both clients and the broader community and can demonstrate –

• Registered Nurse and current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
• 1+ years nursing experience in an outreach capacity
• Immunisation and vaccination accreditation by
  Australian College of Nursing or other recognised
  vaccination and immunisation accreditation
• Demonstrated experience working with alcohol and other drug use
• Ability to understand the needs of vulnerable populations that access QuIHN services
• Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills, including the ability to develop networks and work collaboratively
• Additional experience within one or more of QuIHN’s
  clinical special interest areas i.e. blood borne viruses, sexual health, mental health is also desirable
• Current professional indemnity insurance
• Current Queensland driver’s licence (or equivalent)

• Provide admission and discharge and maintain case notes and other required documentation for handover at the change of shifts and
• Prepare client rooms regularly

• Tertiary qualification in Nursing and current registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)

• Demonstrated current knowledge of the Guidelines and issues relating to withdrawal management
• Demonstrated skills in triage, medical assessment, decision making and providing appropriate nursing interventions and provide crisis support
• Demonstrated competence in infection control procedures
• Willingness and ability to work overnight shifts
• A drivers licence
• A willingness to undergo a National Police check
